Reiki is a system of natural healing that was discovered in the late 19th Century by Dr Mikao Usui. Reiki, pronounced Ray-Key, is Japanese for Universal Life Energy and is a technique that can be used for improving health, reducing stress and aiding relaxation. It works by balancing the body's energies, so promoting health and well-being. Reiki treats the whole person - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually - and is completely safe. It can help to improve the effectiveness of all types of treatments, including complementary therapies, and has no contra-indications. Reiki is both powerful and gentle. It has been in use for over 3000 years and is not limited by age, sex, beliefs or need. Reiki energy will go wherever it is needed in the body to restore its natural balance and requires no direction from the practitioner. Great benefit can be obtained in the form of pain and stress reduction and increased relaxation. Reiki is not associated with any religion or religious beliefs. A treatment usually lasts about an hour, but 30 minute appointments are also available. Most clients prefer to lie down, but you can be treated whilst sitting in a chair if you wish. It is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing so that you can relax you will only be asked to remove your shoes. Most Reiki practitioners will have candles and/or incense burning, as well as background music playing this helps to create a soothing, relaxing atmosphere. Once you are comfortable, the practitioner will gently place their hands, non-intrusively, in a sequence of positions on your head and body. You may find yourself drifting off or even falling asleep during a treatment this is very common as the body becomes totally relaxed. Once the treatment is finished, give yourself a few moments to gather your thoughts. Dont rush off immediately take your time and savour the wonderful, relaxing feeling. Reiki will continue to work with you for 24 hours after your treatment and also helps to detoxify your body, so it is a good idea to drink plenty of water during this time to aid the detoxification process.
I will discuss all aspects
of your treatment with you. Quite often clients wish to know how many
treatments they may need. This varies considerably as some clients find that
one treatment is enough, while others have regular treatments on a weekly or
monthly basis. It is important to remember that, as with any therapy
(conventional or complementary), a cure cannot be guaranteed.
